Despite many ups and downs, including "black widows" and lost wolves, the 2014 Olympic Games in Sochi ended without any major incidents. Russia got the most gold medals, followed by Norway and Canada. But can you really compare Russia's 143 million inhabitants with Slovenia's 2 million inhabitants? Can you really compare the rich country Norway with poorer countries? I thought it would be interesting to find out and decided to make a series of maps with other parameters than the total amount of medals.

Map 1. Total amount of medals. This map shows how many medals each country got in the Olympic Games. A dark color means more medals.

Map 2. Total amount of medals in relationship to the total population. According to this map, Norway got the most medals, followed by Slovenia, Austria, Latvia, and Sweden.

Map 3. Total amount of medals in relationship to the total GDP. According to this map, Slovenia got the most medals, followed by Latvia, Switzerland, Norway, and Austria.
